WeeK11: Class Hightlights

This class is so much fun! I thought that journalism class was probably keep on reading the textbook, but in fact it is not! I really enjoy learning the new terms that I have never heard before, and I can even practice my English when there were group discussions. TV show was super fun! It is the first time for me to control a professional camera. It is a chance for me to memorize the terms of shots which I have learned in my film class. I really enjoy the class and I hope that I can take some other journalism classes in the near future!

Week10:Media Ethics/Media Law

http://www.lossofprivacy.com/index.php/2009/08/nyc-mta-claims-copyright-over-their-schedule/

New York' s MTA is claiming their copyright over their schedule. They are trying to block an application of iphone that can shows their schedules. StationStops is fighting with MTA about the copyright of the application. MTA also demand a share of his revenue, retroactive payment for prior sales.

Brief Comments: I disagree the act of MTM because usually the copyright is about the artistic works but schedule data is not artistic.

Week 5: Movies or Recordings

My favourite sound recording of 2009 is Alive by the Black Eye Peas. I have downloaded the CD called The End which includes the song Alive, and it was the first time I heard this song when I listened all the songs in the CD. I love this song because it is quite similar to the song My Hump which was a very popular song around 3 years ago.

Week 3: Books

1. Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone by J.K Rowling

This is the first book for the whole section of Harry Potter. I had watched the film when I was in primary and it interested me to read the book. I seldom read books which are not required in school but this book tends me to read more books for interest purpose and I have learned many vocab from this book. Now, I have read the whole section of Harry Potter and this book influence me the most.

2. E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial by Melissa Mathison

It was a book that required to read in the reading lesson when I was in primary. It is a science fiction story which is about a boy helps a ET to back home hiding from people. I remember that I even cried when I was reading this book since it is really a touch story that teaches us to cherish everything we have. I can still remember the story clearly even I have read this for nearly 7 years!

3. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

I read this book when I was in F2. It is about a woman fell in love with a man and they got married, but the second wife discovers that Rebecca, the first wife, is still controlling everyone in the family. At first, I thought that it was difficult for me to understand the story since Rebecca had died already, so how come she was still controlling everyone in the house ? However, when I thought it over, I understand what the writer want to express and enriched my skill of story writing.

Week 2: Media Impact

I would like to purpose a research project on how the violence of dramas or cartoons in the television affects the teenagers. First, I will search for the popular dramas or cartoons that include some violence scenes. Then, I will ask those who have watched them in order to see the effects on their altitudes, thoughts and daily lives. I predict that most of them are affected by the violence dramas or cartoons, but I believe that a small group of them can still identify the real world and the fantasy world clearly, not affected by the violence scenes.

My Relationship With Mass Media

The easiest way to know more about what is happening in the world is through media. For me, internet is the most important medium. I use it every day. It really helps me a lot since I can do my research by searching it in Google, contact my friends in Facebook, Skype, and I can also update the news through internet.

When I was a student in Macao, books are essential things in my school life. I can do nothing without textbooks in classes, and reading novels is always a part of my homework. I consider books as my working partners but not read for interest.

Students, including me, in Macau are forced to read the newspapers at least once a week. I consider it as an extra burden for my heavy school bag. In fact, the press in Macau is controlled by the Government, so I dislike watching newspapers.

I seldom buy magazines. I usually use to read my mom’s magazines. As the culture of Hong Kong and Macao are probably the same, the magazines that the shops sell are from Hong Kong. I read it for entertainment purpose only, but I don’t really like it because it really takes time for me to read over it.

Listening to Music is probably one of the hobbies for all the teenagers and I am not an exception. I use to buy the CDs to support my favorite singers but most of the songs that in my ipod are downloaded from the internet.

I only listen to the radio when I am in my friends’ cars. I have no interest on listening to it because I think that it is boring.

I watched dramas of the Hong Kong TV channels every day when I was in Macao. It is one of my entertainments of my daily life in Macao.

For me, watching movies is a kind of entertainment only. When there is a holiday, then I will go to theatre with my friends. The last movie that I have watched is Final Destination during my summer holiday.
